There's something about rugged, untouched wilderness that causes most of us to catch our breath: the beauty of sparkling blankets of thick snow, the soft warmth of a rising sun against cold skin; there is much to love about our natural world and its' inhabitants. For Horatio Chapple and 80 other students documenting evidence of climate change in one of the world's most primitive archipelagos, the chance to wake up for a few days beside a glacier in Svalbard, Norway was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Unfortunately for one small group of students, however, hidden in this opportunity was their greatest challenge; a fight of life or death with one of the Arctic's most formidable predators, the Polar Bear.

Join hosts Dayvid and Amanda as they weave multiple first-person accounts of this incident into one harrowing story of how a number of failed safety measures caused one of the most brutal animal attacks on record, and how for one bright young student, they cost him his life. This episode contains graphic details regarding an animal attack; listener discretion is involved.
